PROJECT OVERVIEW

Bloom is a web application that helps a therapist to add, secure and maintain their patient records. It also assists the therapist by continous patient monitoring, and suggestive indications in the reports, for better understanding of the case.

The goal of this project was to create an impact in the young students community mental health, aiding a support to the therapists via technology connecting both the parties.

Background

Anchor 1

There has been a significant rise in the people suffering from mind related issues, particularly after the pandemic 2020. While there are treatments available at affordable prices, there is still a gap in the facilities provided. Mental health isn’t a riddle, it is something more serious, which many of us fail to address. Times have changed and people’s mindsets have modernized, yet MENTAL ILLNESS or AILMENT still is surrounded by stigmas and myths.

So, me and my team we wanted to design a solution to bridge the gap between those who needed help and those who offer care and cure. And with this we hope to connect millions of minds and bring a change in the society.

Understanding the problem

Problem statement

Mental health is a ocean of possibilities, puzzled riddles, experiments, achievements, a complete amusement in every step of its way . On the flip side of this is a whole new world of opportunities and information to explore, hidden deep in the dark too.

When we began this project, we were excited and exhausted at the same time looking at the mountain of challenge before us.

The fist big hurdle was the complexity and the sensitivity of the subject in itself. We wanted to first understand the subject better so we did our secondary research and survey to understand the major pain points.

With the sample size of 70+ participants we revealed that we wanted to work in the niche part of this giant. We chose to understand better about the mental healths of university students community.

Our survey results also showed us a pattern, that almost 76 % participants had felt bad thoughts and awful worries atleast once in 2 weeks period. This is the most crucial time where these students needs a constant support, nurture. Also students who were taking ailments were not able to progress in the treatment because of lack of communication away from therapy sessions, where exactly they are alone without social interactions.

So we raised this issue to a couple of professional of various field such a univerity therapist, life skill counsellors, psychologists and psychiatrists. We organised informational interviews with these professionals to understand thier point of view about the student community.

We got exciting revelations from the same, we not only understood the students problem from the eye of a professional, but also got a bigger picture about the pain points of these professionals while handlings these cases.

Solution

We discovered that professionals are not able to track and monitor high priority cases at all times and sometimes get false response from their patients on doing home assigned tasks. They feel these activities and tasks are equally important as a therapy session. These are major concerns of not showing progress in a treatment. Also often healthcare professionals seek for medical journals, artifacts, case studies etc. to reference for their learning or deeper understanding about a case. But unfortunately a community exclusively for medics isn't available.

Now with all the insights that we gathered we felt the need to look things from a greater prescpective to tackle the pain points of the students community and the professionals.

Defining the Problem statement

After gathering the insights from the research, survey and information interviews from professionals, we framed were we needed to work.

Problem Statement

How to bridge the gap between the therapist and patients outside of the therapy session for effective treatment.

Product vision and solution

Defining MVP and Features

Based on the research insights, we identified the mvp's and these features were added in the sketches and wireframes. Our Key Solution will have a App with features that helps the therapist to have

  • Forum to share their Medical records, journals, seek support etc.

  • Activities or homeworks/Assignment tasks that the therapist wish to assign the patient (eg. Mood Tracking, etc)

  • Documented session details.

Proposed Solution

The idea of the Solution is to have an App that will have a designated Ai assistant for the therapist to manage, track and record the home activities of their patients. The App will also have a Community forum with Geographic location, that lets them share about the medical reports and journals.

Key Learnings and Takeaways

With our initial research and expectation for the project we wanted to connect all the possible dots, cover the maximum accessibility spectrum. The difficulty was in narrowing a topic to create sufficient design. We eventually managed to do so by adapting to a niche which we also had the resource availability too. Creating a safe space for the patients, trying to use the latest Hi-tech advancements to address even the smallest of concerns, which has a simple cure already. I think if we were to do this project now I would definetly

More like trying to invent square wheels, when the circle was just fine.

But then we realized this by constantly validating our hypothesis, with professionals in various related fields. And we hope we were able to find a solution which would help both the parties (therapists and their patients) feel connected, not lost during the progress and a judgement free treatment.

Thanks for looking into my Project. Hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed working on this.
